Thanks again race fans for visiting GRI & here is my personal account of GRI’s 2010 trip for a NASCAR weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, outside of Joiliet,IL.

My trip began from my Michigan home on the morning of Friday July 9th and I found myself in the infield at 11:30am for the start of Sprint Cup practice.

The June race weekend at Michigan International Speedway played host to ARCA – NASCAR Camping World Truck Series & The Sprint Cup Series.

I attended all 3 days for GetRacingInfo.com and it turned out to be another great racing weekend in the Irish Hills of Southern Michigan.

Although I didn’t camp at the track, race fans have some of the best amenities when it comes to camping at a race track. With nearly 9,000 campsites, vacancy signs were visible for this race weekend and one campground on the speedway property is open from May through Labor Day. The MIS Infield was reconfigured by making the infield campsites larger, drainage was improved and for the first time, a “new” row was added even closer to the racing action.

Darlington Raceway welcomed GRI for the 2010 Southern 500. This legendary superspeedway has been around for over 60 years & NASCAR fans need to pay a visit to this very special race track. The following review is my personal account of my visit to the track called “Too Tough To Tame”.

I flew non-stop from Detroit to Myrtle Beach where I rented a car and made the 90 minute drive to Darlington. Some may think it would be nice to stay IN Myrtle Beach and drive back and forth, but I would suggest against that idea.
The drive is thru several smaller towns, with stop lights and many little places to get caught over the speed limit. Not a drive you want to make after a night race at Darlington, in my opinion.

I have always loved Michigan International Speedway. I got the opportunity to go there for the first time when I was 12 years old and loved. Everything about the place just makes me smile. From the drive in to the facilities and of course the racing at over 205 MPH!

MIchigan International Speedway Grandstands

When Will called me the Saturday evening before the race and said our buddy and MIS Correspondent Ken Friend had 2 tickets for us, I was excited to say the least. I knew Will had never been to MIS before and I had always wanted to go back. So we set out on a unbelievable experience.

Bristol Motor Speedway

Bristol has always been one of my favorite tracks to watch on tv, so when I got my tickets I knew it was going to be a great time. Having never been to a short track, I was really looking forward to seeing this place in person for the first time. We got a pair of tickets online for the Sunday March 22 Sprint Cup race. Decided we were driving to Tennessee from Indiana and also made the decision to camp. Now that the main factors when going to a race were decided, it was time to pack and plan our trip.
